With continued advancements in battery and motor technology, cordless hand tools keep getting better. It might be hard to keep track of which model is the latest, but ultimately of these improvements is good for you. Taking advantage of the latest technology, Ridgid has a new hammer drill driver combo kit that features its new GEN5X brushless motors paired with 18-volt lithium-ion batteries.
The brushless motors offer increased torque and, thanks to increased efficiency, more runtime–Ridgid claims a 50% increase. Brushless motors also have substantially longer lives than older brushed motors thanks to fewer wear parts. The manufacturer’s specifications show an increase in both torque and speed for the hammer drill and the impact driver when compared to the previous 18-volt models.
The hammer drill delivers 700 in.-lb. of torque with a maximum speed of 2100 rpm and 27,300 bpm. Ridgid states the micro-clutch offers over 100 clutch settings and that the mode selector allows you to switch between driving, drill, and hammering without having to adjust the clutch. An auxiliary handle is included.
The impact driver delivers 2000 in.-lb. or toque with a maximum speed of 2700 rpm. The impact driver has three speed settings and a tri-LED light setup around the quick-load bit holder.
Both tools feature Ridgid’s Hex Grip textured grip and the Grip Light trigger that allows the user to easily turn on the light without engaging the tool. This combo kit includes the R86116 Hammer Drill, R86037 Impact Driver, two R840087 4.0Ah lithium-ion batteries, R840095 Charger, two bits, and a carrying bag.
The combo kit will be available in November and the suggested retail price is $279.
