This week’s podcasts are from the 2019 International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Rob Wotzak and Matthew Millham talk with Matt Minchew from Huber Engineered Woods about challenges with creating a strong sheathing system and then wrap up the builders’ show with their favorite finds. Matt got the name of the joist reinforcer product from Metwood Building Solutions incorrect. Here’s a link to the real manufactuer www.metwood.com.

This might be the most fun find @mike_guertin made at #ibs2019: the Laundry Jet. @laundryjet works basically like those tubes at the bank that suck canisters of cash, but instead move your sweaty socks and dirty towels to the laundry room. Top-of-the-line version is motion activated, turning on the unit and opening the chute to accept the laundry, then turns off and dumps the load once full. Uses 6 in PVC as a laundry chute, and one unit can handle multiple rooms.

@tooltribe is kind of like Airbnb for tools. Have a tool just sitting around? Rent it out. Need a tool you don’t have? Find someone who does with the Tool Tribe app. @mike_guertin found these guys at #IBS2019, and it’s one of his favs. #keepcraftalive

@mike_guertin found what have be the smoothest-sliding doors at #ibs2019: Maglev Glide @maglevglide uses rare-earth magnets to levitate their doors, so they slide easily and quietly. In addition to this one, they also have a barn door version. A big perk of the design is it won’t get gummed up with debris that can make your barn-style door harder and harder to close over time. And there’s nothing to lube. #ibs2019 #keepcraftalive

Run cable? Then you might want to check these out. Utility Shield @utilityshield protector plates can be inserted into holes drilled through framing to protect electrical and other cables from damage. @mike_guertin likes how they can be installed before or after you run the cable, and that cut down on labor of traditional protector plates, which go on both sides of the wall to protect cables from drywall screws and other fasteners. #ibs2019 #electricians
