Solar Shingles in Austin
A Tesla roof powers this five-bedroom Texas home and then transfers extra energy to the power grid.
Designed for a very sustainability-conscious family of five, this house has a Tesla roof, the first in Austin, composed of solar shingles that charge batteries to power the home. Extra energy is then transferred to the power grid. In addition, the family’s Tesla car chargers allow the roof to charge the car and, in case of emergency, the car to charge the house.
Despite its size—five bedrooms and six-and-a-half baths, the house is homey and comfortable, with plenty of room both for gathering and retreating. The scale is broken down by artful massing and a plan that presents at the street level as a one-story brick-and-stucco home with attic dormers, while in the backyard, it rises two stories above the pool and generous decks.
The interior color palette of blues and greens complements wood accents throughout the house. Bookshelves were a priority, as were reading nooks. Unique light fixtures perfectly suited to the character of each room include the Tom Dixon Melt pendant lights above the kitchen island, which provide organic, reflective shapes contrasting the clean lines of the counters and cabinets.

While the headline caught my attention I was extremely disappointed because nothing was mentioned about the cost of the Tesla roof compared to a regular roof or how long it takes to pay for itself. This “article” is more like an advertisement for Tesla and builder. Thanks but please consider adding more facts in the future. Thanks.
