At age 10, Clayton DeKorne worked alongside his father, a house builder and homesteader. By 14, Clayton was working for other contractors until he became a full carpenter at 17. Over the next dozen years, he advanced from lead carpenter to renovation contractor. Now a freelance writer, he divides his time between Burlington, Vt., and Brooklyn, N.Y., and was the author of Trim Carpentry and Built-Ins (The Taunton Press, 2002).
