New Jersey native Duncan McPherson finds inspiration for energy-efficient design from a life lived in inefficient houses. A principal at Samsel Architects in Asheville, N.C., Duncan McPherson designed our HOUSES 2012 retirement home of the year. He is a co-founder of the Western North Carolina Green Building Council, works with the council’s Green Bus Stops program, and is chair of the AIA Asheville Committee on the Environment. With AIA and LEED credentials in the bag, Duncan enjoys hiking and photographing the Appalachian Mountains.
