Raised on the fringes of the Everglades until he was 13, Jim Chestnut moved to Maine in 1959, where he later played football and baseball at the University of Maine. After serving with the Special Forces in Vietnam, he traveled the world, came home in 1972, and has been a carpenter ever since. He started his clamp business in 1996. A devoted father to a teenage daughter, he has an unfulfilled goal of landing a 200-lb. tarpon with a 12-weight fly rod.
