Working from an office in a historic home in Sharon, Conn., a third-generation builder educated in fine art and architecture at Bennington College, Rafe Churchill spent 20 years in the construction industry before launching his own design/build firm. He specializes in traditional residential design with a focus on what has become known as the “new old house”house”—a building that offers modern amenities but with the scale, proportion, and texture of antique homes. He comes from three generations of builders and has degrees in architecture and fine art. Fusing the latest technologies with traditional techniques, Rafe designs homes distinguished for their beauty, livability, and durability. In its first year, his firm (rafechurchill.com) was awarded two Bulfinch Awards by the Institute of Classical Architecture. His Shaker-style house is Fine Homebuilding House‘s best new home in 2016.
