Mike Maines \| residential designer As a home designer with a background in carpentry and engineering, FHB contributing editor Mike Maines pays attention to the practical, hardworking parts of a house, from materials such as mineral wool to spaces such as laundry closets. For design inspiration, he draws on nature and traditional, vernacular architecture. When not designing, Mike likes to work in his woodshop or tend to his homestead in rural Maine.
Josh Salinger \| design-builder Josh is CEO and Founder of Birdsmouth Design Build, a residential Design Build company located in Portland OR. In 1999 Josh graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a double major in Zoology and Conservation. In 2007 he started Birdsmouth Design Build with the goal of designing and building beautiful, high performing homes that transform and improve the built environment.
Alex MacKenzie, CSI, CDT \| Senior Architectural Project Manager, Marvin Windows Alex has more than 15 years of experience in the fenestration industry following his education in Western architectural history. Historic rehabilitation and adaptive reuse are of particular interest to Alex, but all manner of building projects present exciting challenges. In his role as an architectural project manager for Marvin, Alex works with design and trade professionals throughout the Pacific Northwest and Hawaii to overcome design challenges and to bring to life the ambitious aspirations of his clients. When he’s not working in the world of fenestration, Alex works on restoring his own 1920’s bungalow in Portland, OR where he and his wife just welcomed a new baby and continue to contend with two problematic rescue dogs.
Greg Novak \| Retired Glazing Engineer In his 27 years working for one of the top window glass manufacturers in the country, Greg was involved with quality control, product reliability, testing, special projects, code compliance, and product development. He spent time as a rep to ASTM E1886 and E1996 committees and was a member of a corporate Emerging Technologies Acquisition Team.
