1/2 strechboard rock on clg, will it work

going to screw 1/2 sheetrock over a old plaster clg. i’d like to use strechboard sheetrock ( 54″ wide) by 16′ because it would really cut down on seam work. the clg joist are on 16″ centers, will probably put a couple dabs of glue in between screws. do you think this will be ok? when i picked this stuff up today it seem real flexible. by the way as you shake your head about ” hows this idoit going to get this 8′ high’ we will be using a sheetrock jack.thanks larry

The general rule of thumb is 1/2" drywall on ceilings if the supports are 16" O.C. So you're probably O.K.
Two things come to mind, though. If the plaster isn't in good shape, it could come loose and sit on top of the drywall. If your screws don't go into the framing members the drywall could sag with the plaster.
You're also adding some dead weight to the framing members. If they're undersized it may cause them to sag. Kind hard to say, since we don't know what you're dealing with.

you'll be fine ...
rent a lift.
find the joists ... drill test holes till ya strike gold ... then chalk line .... then layout on the face of the board .... then lift.
1/4" rock is even lighter.
