My fourteen year olds school project; Duffy scaled this project down doing all of the math and design work in two evenings, i helped him with set ups in the shop and he constructed this scale model for a pre-ap freshman geography class. Im a bit proud of the boy, itsa too bad he has no interest in the trades.

All RIGHT!
My favorite building - got some sketches I made of it sitting under a tree.
After wandering around over there for a bit, it became clear we haven't really improved on monumental acrchitecture in a couple thousand years
Always had a dream of duplicating it exactly as it is now somewhere high above the sea, then bulding a perfect glass-walled and roofed double-cube house inside it to live in.
Tell him super work!

"got some sketches I made of it sitting under a tree."Well bring those sketches inside. They will get wet if you leave them under the tree

You couldn't talk your in-laws into that idea, high above the Choptank Sea?I dig classical architecture like that, too. Always thrilled to see the view of the back side of the National Archives. 'Course that's modeled after the Pantheon and not the Parthenon, but still...
And here I though that you had build this one.http://nashville.about.com/cs/historynsites/a/parthenon.htm.
.
A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
Been there a few times, very impressive. I am still waiting to go to see the real deal hopefully sometime soon.
Exellent, exellent, ad nauseum...
Could we have some construction details? Might build one myself...
Great learning project!
can you use this and things like it to stimulate him and interest him in the trades or in design work. If you were google Partenon + CAD + 3d you would see some other models and modeling programs it has been studied so much.
BTW, it he does start building,he will need to learn to set all his columns plumb, LOL

PiffinDuffy is way to smart too go into the trades, he is a great athlete and excellent student, he is interested in sports managment, ie agent, earning percentages off of proffesional athletes, or something realated, maybe proffesional baseball player himself, he made multiple double plays as a tee ball player at age of 5. Unlike his father he has many talents, he wont be a high school drop out and failure.

I'd beg to differ.
You've got pride in your family and a kid with talent and ideas.
I'd say you're a success, and your son's a lucky kid...
( and tell Duffy, nice job)

yeah... the chestnut didn't fall far from that tree

give him an "attaboy" from me
and one more thing to be Thankful for , huh , Dad ?
Wow - That's some project for someone that age.
Thanks for postnig it and bragging on your kid. I wish more people would do that.
Hey now, that's mighty impressive! If your boy can figure something like that out, he'll be a success in whatever avenue he chooses.
Congratulations.
Wow!!!! I'm certainly impressed. And that's coming from an architect who's built plenty of models.

Very impressive, give the kid a pat on the back.

Real nice work!
Just don't let him store any Turkish gunpowder in there...
That is one classy birdhouse.
i guess it could be a birdhouse, but i dont see that happening.
You have to admit, it'd make a statement, though! I was thinking of the first project we had to make in my freshman shop class: a birdhouse. I had to get special dispensation to make one where the top hinged up for cleaning, with an auxiliary outbuilding for birdseed. That teacher would have flunked your Duffy for sure for his wanton display of ingenuity.
this project was for a geography class, he isnt taking any shop classes
I figured that's why you said so in your opening post.
You gota learan to read between the nuances with Splintie
