To prevent moisture buildup and improve performance, install a continuous air barrier—such as drywall or specialized membranes—under tongue-and-groove boards or other interior wall paneling.

add alum to 90 min, or 45. have to play w/ it to get right set time, but it does work. Cream of tartar slows it down.
check with a good and commercial drywall supply.
I know durabond and their ltwt brother comes in 5 min and 20, can't say my supplier stocks a 10.

I cannot imagine using 5 minute mud. I used some 20 minute once, and that took some quick moving to get it on and spread smoothly.

20 is my limit also.

thanks,
I'll look for durabond 5. I do some small repairs from time to time where I want to get my 3 coats on and get out.
I use plaster of paris mixed with regular joint compound on a 1 to 1 ratio. Start out with just a little water and shake the plaster over the water and let it soak for about 3 minutes until it is mostly absourbed, trowel in you jc and mix. The work time depends on how fast and hard you mix. Normally you get about 7 minutes. As the mix is starting to harden, work fast and you can fill in those big gaps in one shot. As you skim the final coat, spray or sponge water on to the hardening surface and float your trowel over it a few times to feather it. There should never be any need to sand it. I've been doing this for years. Joint compound is not as good a mix as the traditional lime putty but it's more available and with lime you have to mix it and let it slake for 24 hours. I always keep a bag of plaster tucked away in the van.
just remember durabond dries very hard. Easysand is as it sounds. They both come timed. Pick your poison.
