I ran over to the nearest Lowe’s at lunch. I had been planning on trying one of Sphere’s tricks (I think it was Sphere).. Extend my ts rip fence by clamping a steel stud to it ( I think he was using it as a straight edge for his circ saw).
But anyway, Lowes didn’t have steel studs. So as I’m walking back out, I stop at the levels, thinking to maybe pick up one and use it instead. Find a lone 72″ Johnson crammed in behind the Stanley carrying cases. Couldn’t find a price on the shelf, so I took it over and asked a clerk what the price was.
“This can’t be right,” he says. “It’s coming up as $10,000.”
I told him that was a bit more than I was thinking of paying for it. He ended up marking it for $25.
Somebody tell me this thing was worth $25. I’d hate to think I paid $25 for a $15 level. I was pretty sure it wasn’t worth $10k.
Gotta get that Stabila ordered. At least its going to be used for level-work, not a rip fence extension.

Looks to me like you did just fine - got it right then and didn't have to wait or pay any shipping and heck who could have passed it up at 99.75% off of original asking price.
You should be able to buy that Stabila with the $9,975.00 you saved on the Johnson.
Look for the 196 series when you do go for the Stabila - most accurate, reads the same up or down, comfortable hand holes, easier to remove ends.

Ohhhh Mannnn You blew it.
Every ten years or so Johnson produces a magic level. It doesn't make anything you build more plumb or level. What it does do is cast a spell on anything it is used on that makes anyone viewing it think everything is exactly plumb and level. Which is a lot better than just plumb and level
As we all know any structure built isn't dead plumb and level and it will be 'off' some more in a year or two because of wood movement and normal wear.
With the magic level, well worth $10k, the buildings you put together will all seem dead on forever.
Hurry back maybe you can get it before anyone else snatches it up.
Had a carpenter friend who obviously had one. He always claimed everything he built was always perfect.
You knuckle head. He DID get it. He was asking if it was money well spent. You seem to think it is.
I once returned a pile of stuff to Lowes - I didn't have a receipt, so they promised to mail me a check. I was in a hurry and didn't even look at the receipt they gave me.
Looking at the receipt later, I found there was (according to them) one $10,000 item I returned...obviously a mistake. The check came, but with the $10K omitted....I don't remember returning a level...
seems as though a 72" would be worth about 50 to 100 duckets
SCRIBE ONCE CUT ONCE!
I think that if I found a "johnson" among the stanley cases, I wouldn't care what size it was. And I sure as heck wouldn't be grabbing it...

I don't know, man. If it was a six footer, you could sell it to the National Enquirer and buy you a nice security system. As for grabbing it, that's why you should always carry a handkerchief and a Leatherman.

Long ago when banks were first getting computerized, mine once put a deposit in my checking account of $6,100,050.00. ;-)

Only two things matter for 25 bucks
1 is it straight?
2 is it ajustable?
Yes and Yes you made out like a bandit. Yes and No---Then just know how it reads and never expect to much.
i think a 72" would go for around $45 down here you got a good deal. i have done this several times once was actually a level. i find aproduct that's the last one and has no UPC or price tag they always end up giving it to me for about $10 less than it should cost. dishonest? ......... nah!!
RTC
I think you paid $25 for a $54 dollar level....AND you aren't waiting for it...
