The floors in this house had been covered with wall to wall carpeting for 50 years. The owners had no idea they existed when they bought the house at auction last year. This room is 300 sq. ft. of about 1500 sq. ft. of historic top nail floors.
There was a little bit of inlay repair required and most of the border pieces needed refastening. I couldn't get all the piano tracks and water marks out as the material is only 5/16" thick and an aggressive sanding will knock the nail heads off. The red rubber carpet backer welded with the old varnish and shellac and the whole floor required a hand scraping (carried many fives of debris out) before the first cut with #36 paper. Final cut was made with #120. The floor was sealed with BonaSeal and finished with 3 coats of Mega Semi gloss, with a #220 machine sanding before the final finish.
The carpet is still down on the 2nd floor as restoration is ongoin, but a peak underneath revealed a Flemish knot border in the Master bedroom.
Could you please reduce the resolution of your pictures and/or crop them somewhat.
With the size of the pictures it just takes way too long to download without a broadband connection.
If you note Jeff's pictures are about 1/10 the size of yours.
Bill,
Sorry, I deleted them until I can figure out how to compress them. New camera, new technology, old dog.
hey....mine's just smaller because genetics! No reason to make fun of a fella! Jeff Genius has it's limits.....but stupidity knows no bounds
Hey...I was gonna show Cath the pics! dumped my email ones cause these were here......get them back up! Jeff Genius has it's limits.....but stupidity knows no bounds
Outstanding job. Be sure to post the master bedroom pictures. If it comes out half as well as the first one those Flemish knot borders should look fine.
download a photo management freeware called irfanview...you can convert most things with it... a good format to use for these boards is ____.JPG which is a compressed viewer... you can get great resolution under 100 megs...
here's a link to the freeware
