the makita seems to be preferred over the dewalt yet as far as i can tell does not offer extension arms or a length stop as accessories. this seems like a major disadvantage. is there such an attachment? can such be customized? is there a better way? Your thoughts on the above and what is the best saw are appreciated. thanks

Nobody gives a rats tail what you buy...In fact...I suggest you buy a Sears DieHard...
near the Makita blue stream,
aj
But not for long...gotta go ski for a week while you sweat out this purchase...Hey...do you want me to pick out your socks in the morning too?
*(psst...last post in jest!)
*thanks jack, wow, advice on saws, batteries and socks too! i prefer a silk, cotton blend which dosent contrast too much with the pant leg and shoe, less sweaty also, enjoy skiing
