Well, I think I finally figured out the camera and irfanview….lets see, gulp!
The large area in the first pic will be what my wife thinks is a three car garage..lol….above it will be another huge area for my “whatever” that will have a small door attached to my master bedroom above the rear area and porches in the front and rear…1st and second story porches in the rear facing the pool and woods.
porch in front as well to the side entry next to the heh heh garage.
If I’m lucky I might get dryed in by spring..ugh
Be well all,
andy

Good job Andy.
Who Dares Wins.
I'm confused Andy. The first photo is what's left after the demolition, right? And is that the original house, the 1600s one? When were the other bits added?
The photo that has the concrete foundation has no basement. Is that normal for your area? (this is actually pretty cool. I like talking to people w/different ways of building. Spoke to an American who's relocated to France, he was working on a place right on a major road during Roman times and it used to be part of a convent.)On the outside of the concrete foundation, I see something black. I'm assuming that's tar, it's used around here to make foundations waterproof (I've actually heard of a better product that's more like rubber. The water pressure from the outside of the building forces it into any cracks keeping the water out. It's sprayed on.).
Love the color of the place, tho. Are you keeping it the same? One last question: Why didn't you mention something before you did the demolition?!?! I need some decent baseboard and inside window trim for my place. I would have brought my own crowbars and the Volksy and I would have even paid you some money. Sheesh.New York isn't THAT far away. This jobless recovery has done more to promote the consumption of exquisite chocolate than the finest chocolatier. Cost be damned.

Trust me....anything in the addition I knocked down I pulled out that was worth anything.....and there wasnt much. The baseboard heaters in there were a mess and there were two six ft sections.
The trim was just 1x6....wasn't old at all. Note the triangle window in the demo pic.
Who ever did that section had zero taste. Also note the framing material.....far from old.
Nope not adding a basement..don't need one and it would only add to the cost.
Far as the foundation walls go....yes it is tar and I plan on backfilling with a really good drain source of material.
The color.yep.keeping it even against my neighbors distain for it.

Lookin good, but that doesn't so much look like an addition as it does a whole new house, whats the Sq footage on New vs Old?

Andy,
Boy, I see you've been busy. Congrats on using that digital camera. Hope to see even more pics of progress soon.

Will try and figure out how to use the stich feature. Theres so many damn features in that thang it's kinda overwhelming, but at least now I have the basics together.

CAG,
Sorry, ment to post to Andy. Also, I'll be responding to that e-mail shortly.

Its mostly my shop/garage which I will build three barn looking doors for...I have a bunch of old windows to reinstall in the addition and above the front porch in a low roof wall will have belly down windows like the old days.
On the gable end of the garage facing the side will have a hay loft door with the ridge beam extended out for a block and tackle to haul stuff up.
The columns will be square like back then.
Wood roof.
I'll try and get some pic of the plans....Its about 250 LF of exterior wall or less. Two stories, but nice roof lines approved by the Historic Society ( and they don't approve things easily..trust me!)
Siding will be the same..hand splits painted red.

Andy,
Have you given any thought to peeling the cedar shingles off the original house and going back to the clapboards? It would change the proportions of the house so much for the better.
Steve
I have uncovered a lot of sections from inside (repairing interior walls) for this or that and most all the house is all shingles over skip sheathing except for the side you can see in my pic which apears to be a sort of dutch lap siding (you might be able to make it out in that far rear corner. My guess is that the DL doesnt even go across the whole side.
Its gonna be a bit of a pain to tie in to the existing house. It'll be a bit of a challange.
In the original photos I have from when ever they invented cameras...lol....its shingles. Other historic houses around here including a museum all look like my house as well....same shingles and same color.

The shingles aren't original? This jobless recovery has done more to promote the consumption of exquisite chocolate than the finest chocolatier. Cost be damned.
No need for "gulp" as you've got it apparently. Thanks for the more pics. They're now on file with the rest of the shots you've posted.
I REALLY like that color too, but maybe I told you that before. Perfect for that house, I think.
I wish I could come help, but that can't happen right now. It's a good thing you're doing out there and as always I'm with you on the project in spirit at least.
Stay safe and be well.
