Folks,
We have recently had our back porch made into an interior space. The siding originally installed on the porch is first growth California redwood 6″ T&G. It was painted over, so we didn’t know what it was. Once we knew, we had the contractor run it through a planer and install it as a ceiling for the new space. It is beautiful. However, we have heard varying advice as to whether we should put a finish on it. What should be done and why?
Thanks!

That's some beautiful wood.
If you want a finish that shows the wood's color, without adding to it, try a water-base clear finish. Must solvent-base finish have an amber color to them, which may or may not be to your liking. The water finishes are completely clear, so the wood you see is what you get.
Some people think the water finishes make the wood look "dead", or "flat", so you should try them on a scrap of wood before committing yourself to the entire room.
I spray a lot of stuff I do, and I like Crystalac finishes. I get them from http://www.McFeelys.com
