Reclaimed an old structure and talked the wife into making it our home. All is well but the concrete floor, it is a bit uneven in spots. Thought of covering the surface with tar paper and applying 2x6x10 pine lumber with concrete screws. (Did not see a reason to pour leveling agent since the 2x’s are able to span the few inches of depression ) Plug the holes with dowels, sand a bit, add some surface finish, put down room size rugs and start livin. All said and done it is about 600 sqft, give or take a hallway. Is there something I’m missing or is this that easy. Like to start in six weeks to make ready for summer. KMK

You might consider having the 2x6's milled to square edges and tounge&groved. Tighter fit, will look better than having the rounded edge of the lumber.
How about putting down some plywood (3/4") over the felt paper? Then use rosin paper, then apply the flooring to the plywood. Let theplywood "float" on top of the concrete. Blind nail the flooring to the plywood thru the tounges at an angle. Remember to leave 5/8-3/4" around the perimiter for expansion of the wood.

What Curly said, but don't just joint the edges - rip them to a consistent width (you might start with 2x8's instead). Instead of t+ging the edges, your could also groove both edges and use a spline between each board, maybe cut from 3/8" plywood. This is the approach I'm taking with my 1x6 floor, and it's working quite well.

Blah, yada, whatever, Hi how are you today
Another alternative would be to lay your felt, then some 2x4's (P.T.) on theirs sides at 16" centers, shimming them across the space for level and cut-nailing them to the floor. Fill the gaps with rigid insulation or blueboard, and lay wood flooring over that. More expensive I know, but just an option for ya'.
If you go with your way, which sounds fine, you may look into using cut nails as well. With the right stain it might match the old place pretty good, eliminating the need for plugs.
Just a thought. Good luck!
I'd glue down 3/4" plywood, PT if there is no VB under the crete, and then use a snap together floating engineered floor product. Finished in a couple of days.
You guys recommending milling T&G - Do you know that you can buy pine 2x6 T&G all day long?
Excellence is its own reward!
Yeah, but my way he gets more tools, maybe even a new table saw, plus lots and lots of sawdust to compost.

Have to special order untreated 2x6 flooring. Figured he would be able to select the best of the pile and mill it straight. Although wavy kinky flooring is one of my favorite things!<g>
