3 gang outlet – rectangular face plate with rounded outlets
I’m assuming this is not within code but i’m wondering if someone can confirm this for me (maybe with a reference if available).
I have three rounded outlets in a 3-gang box. i can’t find a face plate that fits the rounded outlets. everything that is 3-gang in lowes or homedepot is rectangular. i could go with amazon for this or maybe redoing the wiring with rectangular switches (my last choice). however this is in an area where it won’t be seen easily so looks aren’t a prime concern.
i’ve attached a pic to help out with what i’m writing about here. ignore the hole to the right of the outlets.
thanks.

You've got to be kidding.
nope. not kidding. i checked in the stores at lowes and homedepot and there was nothing. apparently it's not in your stores either. i already indicated that i could possibly order it online.
again, my question here is, is this against code.
That's a Decora cover with regular outlets. Go buy a 3 gang cover.
ok. was hoping to find out if it's against code (what i currently have) but for $6 it's not worth the risk. thank you.
Yes, that's a code violation, according to the model electrical code (NFPA 70), but your local jurisdiction may differ. Article 406.6: "Receptacle faceplates (Cover Plates). Receptacle faceplates shall be installed so as to completely cover the opening and seat against the mounting surface."
Thanks Matt!
First, If you would even for a moment "think", that this meets code or would pass inspection, you shouldn't be doing your own electrical work. It has to be the most blatant example of providing a situation for a kid to stick something into the box and be electrocuted that one could imagine. ..if not your kid, some kid 20 years in the future.
Secondly, For $6 why are you wasting your time and everyone else's.
