Prescriptive codes don't address the connection at less common angles, so base the connection off more typical ones using bolts, structural screws, blocking, and steel tension ties.

Gee Thanks but didn't mean to ask anyone to go out of their way.
It's just I'm 30inches short after turning a 90 at the top of the stairs, running 6ft to another 90 and then heading to the wall.
Instead of a post or column and trying to blend something in got to thinking it'd be slicker and easier to run it to the wall but didn't know if anyone would still make that profile of handrail.
Thanks
be a mahogany stain on anything would be good enough for the kind of girls I go out with.

Hey Rez,
Check out this site: http://www.stairspecialistinc.com he advertises in FHB and lives in town here. His name is Ted Goff and he is a good man. I'm pretty sure I seen that profile in his shop, the Mahogany part might be a problem. Worth a shot.
I dug up his phone numbers (269) 964-2351 or (269) 964-3450 call him and see if he can help you out.
My Mommy says I'm special.
Thanks.

How 'bout making it yourself?
Table saw, router, handplane and scraper/sandpaper
30" in mahogany shouldn't take all that long.
I have such a long line of necessary priorities in front of me plus working to get bucks and the idea of first time thru on something takes me 10x longer than anyone else.
But that is food for thought. Thanks

How soon you need it?
I have a couple old salvaged rails, I think one of them is that same profile, in walnut.
I just got back down here to TX but will be back up in Iowa on the first of June and can check my "warehouse".
That profile is fairly common in victorian homes, is yours a salvage rail. Probably dont even need to ask you that, what else would it be! Damn sure aint from the bargin bin at Lowes. :)
Doug
Roar! Thanks much for looking.
No hurry. Yep took it out of an old victorian years back and am finally getting around to using it.
Obviously nothing on my place is even remotely associated with hurry, or even the word now.
I'd been trying tomorrow but somehow it slid into someday.
Funny how that happens.

I'm up here in Iowa and looking through my inventory I see that I have some handrail in that exact profile! I dont have scan ability but its identicle in profile shape.
Dont get excited, its only 3 1/2 at the widest point and 1 3/4 tall, :(
I do have quit a bit of it though!
This must have been a lower income victorian compared to the one that yours came out of.
Your welcome to it but.......
Doug
well now I'm caught in a straight betwix two.
I was eyeballing these two walnut pillars I'd salvaged a few years back, wondering if they could be blended in somehow with the rail section. Then I'd need something like 5 more ballusters in that I have 8 left of the same basic profile but of two different lengths.Nice playing the role of stitching the shoes for the shoemaker's son as you can get away with a lot more on yer own place.be in a place
Beware. RFID is coming.
Send me those two walnut pillars and I'll fab the hand rail for ya, of course your choice of wood.
that way you wont have to rack your brain trying to figure out a way to incorporate them into the mix!
I'm just trying to help ya out here!
Doug
