like i had a week to pizz away…. have’n never built a steel spirial stairway and be’n in need of one…. i figured i could weld one up in… 2 days… as of friday it’ll be one week (worked some sat & sunday) so 7 days labor… yes i’d jump & do a few other things while building it but… it’s been my main focus for this whole week…
19 rise & 18 treads from ground to 2nd level… then a landing and then 12 rise to 3rd level… 27.5degree treads 62″dia. 4.5″ center pole…. looks like art… IMHO have no idea who or how it’ll ever get painted… material costs i’d guess at less than $300… but i wouldn’t build another one for 5k and even then it’d have to be a “my kids won’t have christmas if i don’t” deal before i ever build #2…
guess it’s another eye opener that… my projects always take 5x as long as i plan for…

Where are pictures?
I have the same issue with time, what I think will take a few minutes takes at least an hour.
I think the time thing, is we think how long it takes but we forget about setup and breakdown, different tools needed, and sheer tenacity of some things not to give up their grip.
Then when it does give up it has to break something we didn't expect then we have to fix or replace that.
Then there is the explaination time.
Then there is cleanup time .
Then there is admiration time.
Then there is customer appreciation time.
Then there is customer directives.
Then there is money collection.
And heaven help you if there are 2 people on the job.
ANDYSZ2WHY DO I HAVE TO EXPLAIN TO FRIENDS AND FAMILY THAT BEING A SOLE PROPRIETOR IS A REAL JOB?

I think in my case i can picture exactly what i'm going to build in my minds eye... down to detail... and I know the exact steps and materials needed in what order... it seems very clear and the picture is...
but i think it traps me.... the detail i have yet to picture is the time one... my mind needs not just a new clock... but a clock period... told my guys yesterday... don't let me start another project like this....

i'll work on some pics... tried it with a camera phone but.... too dark
I am guilty of telling my guys, we'll slam this together and go home for the day. It should only take a few minutes. An hour and a half later we are still there and I just tell them to go home. I should know better by now.
