45 degree outside corners on bevel sidin
I have attempted to install cedar bevel siding on a copula I am building. I have 8″ bevel and want to avoid using 1×4 corner boards at the corners. As I lap the siding the inside angle of the 45 degree bevel changes. Some one out there must know of a trick way of caulculating the degree of the backside of the siding. I am using a delta sawbuck to cut the siding, and it will only tilt 45 in one direction. I set the table to 2 degrees and the blade to 45 and the first right hand corner looks ok, but the left one didn’t work. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks, John

...is that left hand corner square? The backside of the siding sits parrallel to the wall surface..so the cut should be a simple 45º bevel...just like the right hand corner that worked.
Hey..how are things up in the Tongass? Miss that place, except for the deer flies.
Well, the Tongass is just fine and we are having a record dry spell, which is great for building and fishing, which I hope to do this weekend. The King Salmon are starting to hit and a 43# is in first place in our derby, which makes it tough to get work done. Anyway, the backside is not a 90 since the lower edge of the siding is sitting on the upper edge of the peice of siding below, so the angle should be different depending on how thick the upper edge of the bevel is.
Thanks fo rthe response, John
put a scrap under the edge of the peice you are cutting to keep it off the table the same way it would be on the wall then all you have to do is cut the bevel. or you can stand it up if you have room with a scrap holding the bottom out from the fence and cut your left or right miter and the scrap wiill set the bevel for you.
