5 years of weekend workers

bobbys | Posted in General Discussion on April 7, 2008 12:02pm

They developed the street behind me and built 5 houses, For 5 years most of the work was done on weekends , Now i used to work a lot of Saturdays but mostly bidding and pick up stuff, A lot of work gets done on weekends cause they can do it without being licensed, If one calls they ignore it, So for 5 years its been trucks, noise and hammering all day Saturday and Sunday starting early in the morning, funny thing is one house they start at 7 till its done then call and complain about the next house starting at 7, Its ok when they do it but not the next person.I worked my whole life i never had a job where we framed on Sundays, I roofed a few to beat a storm or rain but thats it. An old carpenter told me once if your not making it in 5 days your not gonna make it in 7 either, At any rate i always had some respect for other people on weekends.

Well, if they're working unlicensed in Oregon, all it takes is a call with some basic details to the Oregon State Contractors Board.
The enforcement is contracted with the Oregon State police. And they'll respond on weekends....I know of two similar cases in the last year...

Quit yer bitchin' and get on the phone.

    1. bobbys | Apr 07, 2008 03:21am | #8

I did not know the police did that

      1. Notchman | Apr 07, 2008 11:47pm | #14

Just to be clear, contact the Contractors Board, not the police. IIRC, there are five State Police detectives under contract with the board who investigate these issues. Their results are often listed in the CCB quarterly newsletter. As I understand from a friend, at least one of them is one of those real dedicated types that loves to nail the perps.

We tried calling but all those ones that are caught are in Portland, They dont come to the coast and if they do its in a week or 2 and the crooks are long gone by then, They canvassed our area 4 years ago but have not seen or heard from them since.

          1. dovetail97128 | Apr 08, 2008 03:32am | #18

bobbys, Well, if it would help you out at all send me your contact info and I will call you in and we can test the system to see if the CCB responds by visiting you.
Always willing to help a brother out ya know. ;-)

            Its scarecrow hes been underbidding me on all the rich white Republicans that have big houses here with oil money, In fact i saw him at the Shilo with a skinny girl with blonde hair in a little black party dress having drinks.G, O boy is he gonna kill me now;}

I noticed advertising on craig's list without license info has caught the ccb's attention too.

Saw a guy's post about getting nipped!

I couldn't work without a license--if just for the peace of mind!"Research is what I'm doing when I don't know what I'm doing..."

I agree with Notchman, call the BB.
I am all in favor of the enforcement using the law. I also like the way the BB has the web site set up so that past DBA's are able to be looked at when visiting the site to check on the past history of a contractor. If you can't play by the rules then leave the field.

a similar thing happened to a friend of mine,
it was a remodel that started very early and would go on until past dark almost every day
amid many complaints from several people

until someone went over to the noisy house during the dark of night on a Saturday, shoved the garden hose into the dryer vent and turned the water on and left it on until late Sunday night,

    .

    .

    .

    . . . . . . . .

If you are working Monday through Friday, how do you know if they aren't working or not?

Anyways, maybe they only work two days a week: Saturday and Sunday! You're thinking they work seven and they might think you're crazy for working five!

    Bob's next test date: 12/10/07

    1. bobbys | Apr 07, 2008 03:45am | #11

thats a pretty good point i guess
