Can anyone tell me where I can find a circular saw that bevels beyond 50 deg.? I’ve heard them called “swing saws” & that’s all I know. (Used for roof framing)

You can get a 60 degree Skill worm drive but it's a heavy pig. Try anyone that carries skill saws.

The Mafell KSP65F (7-1/2") & KSP85 (9" blade) will tilt 60 degrees.
Timber framers use a lot of Mafells because in addition to the saws they have
that will tilt they also make some really huge portable circular saws too (12"
14" and 16") that also have that tilt.

pushstick,
You could buy the Skil 8 1/4" wormdrive, or you could do what I do. If I want to cut a 60 degree bevel, I first cut a 30 degree bevel. Then I set the shoe at 90 degrees again. Then I set the shoe on the bevel and slice through. Sometimes the blade isn't big enough to finish the cut, so I finish with a handsaw. If I want a 50 degree bevel, I cut a 40 degree first. The first cut is the reciprocal of the cut you want. (using a 0-90 degree system)
BEWARE: This can be a very dangerous operation. Make double-dog sure the piece you are cutting is secure. Its also not the most accurate method, but it works for most framing.
I guess an 8 1/4" saw would be a good idea for a fast framing crew.
As I understand it, a "swing saw" is a regular skil 77 with a special foot attached that allows you to bevel 80 degrees or something. Its a tool for gang cutting the level cut of a birds mouth.
