6″ inches of exterior insulation, vertical siding and easy installation . Will this work?
I am looking at doing 6 inches of Rockwool Comfortboard on the exterior of my home build. In addition I want to add vertical siding and ideally use Kebony’s click-in rail system. I’ve read a lot of articles but I don’t feel like I’ve really found an assembly that works. At least not one that addresses all my concerns. Here is what I was thinking and was wondering if this is a viable solution? The wall assembly would be ZIP, 6″ of Rockwool Confortboard(Or wood fiber board), rainscreen and vertical siding. I’ve seen assemblies that use vertical and horizontal battens to get the proper attachment points for the siding but that is extra cost both in materials and labor. I’ve seen products like Coravent or Benjamin Obdykes Batten UV as an option but I haven’t seen them installed directly on top of the Comfortboard (Note that you can’t install the Kobony click-in rails this way either). Now, I did come across a product called Z-Girt by Armatherm. I’ve seen it cut into 4 inch pieces and attached to the ZIP at the proper location for installation of outboard materials such as a batten, or in the case of the video below, a layer of plywood. Would using a system like this suffice to allow the installation of the click-in rail? Anyone see any drawbacks?
Bonus question. If the vertical siding is not installed as tongue in groove or shiplap how do you deal with the reveal in between boards?

I don’t have an answer for you for attaching clips on comfortboard. It seems you wouldn’t have that issue with wood fiber board, although that stuff is still pricey. I heard that the new fiber board plant in Maine is up and running, but when I emailed them about rigid board insulation they said they were starting with loose fill 1st. I’m residing my barn with vertical boards. I was originally going to use shiplap, but have settled on butted, nailed to Coravent’s batten, over 475’s Fronta Quattro as WRB. It’s black with black tape, and allows up to 1 3/8” gaps between boards. Their Penta black WRB allows even larger gaps.
It wouldn't be clips to comfortboard. It would be those clips attached to the z-girts which are attached to the sheathing behind the comfortboard.
