Hi all. We live in a low-lying house where the 4″ waste line exits the houseup near the ceiling of our full basement. I want to add a toilet downstairs in the basement but rather than use a macerating pump for the waste I want to simply dig a hole through the basement slab and use a self-composting toilet down there. My question is how big of a hole and how deep should I dig? Thanks in advance.

Why do you even think this is a good idea?
Why do you think that it is such a bad idea? If that's what you mean by your reply. I'm completely open to better ideas but i'd like to hear them first. Thanks.
Your idea is fairly uncommon, and there are numerous methods to pump sewage up. I don't know how big of a hole you need, but you could get below the water table and have a problem sealing it water tight. I just think it's a bad idea. I see composting toilets as a solution in off grid type situations, and above ground level. There are incinolets that incinerate waste, but I think they are energy inefficient and require expensive consumables.
The other problem with your original question is I dont understand what your idea of a composting toilet is. The first thing that comes to my mind is an indoor privy, but I certainly hope that isn't what you're thinking.
You would have to ask the manufacturer of the toilet -- the things are carefully engineered to minimize odors and the hazards of gasses being released indoors, and install instructions must be followed to the letter.
