I thought that I had read somewhere recently that the “Bigfoot” 10 1/4″ wormdrive saw could bevel to 75 degrees…anyone know if this is correct? Seems as though roofs are getting more and more complicated lately, or maybe I’m just seeking them out. Lots of irregular hips and valleys and such. I’ve read of saws called “swing tables” however I heard that OSHA squashed the manufacturing of them…anyone know if this is true and why? I guess I could understand why they stopped making those dado head circular saws, buy why the swing tables? Anyone know where I could get my hands on a swing table…email me if you do!!!
I thought that if the Bigfoot could bevel to seventy five it would be worth buying…I could definately justify it by using it to cut roofs and also for cutting in windows and such in existing framing. Cutting 4×4’s, glulams, and headers in one pass without dragging the slider off the truck is pretty inviting too!

according to this: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000224SF/ref=hi_de_a_smtpd/102-8564872-5924110?v=glance&s=hi&vi=tech-data it goes to 45*...
looks like they manufacture the guard assembly and related parts to attach to common saws - here's a line-up of big blade saws - the 14" has a milwaukee motor... http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/sim-explorer/explore-items/-/B0000224SE/0/101/1/none/session/ref=pd_sxp_elt_mor/102-8564872-5924110
Yes, Bigfoot does make a swing table for their saw. And it's well worth it. Swings to 75 degrees. I've got a dado saw and a Bigfoot with a swing and use them both quite a bit. Check out the website- http://www.Bigfootsaws.com. Another option is Skil makes an 81/4" worm drive that swings to 60 degrees. Alot less money. If you gang cut rafters, you can cut the level cut of a 7 pitch with it. I've also got one of those with a bigger blade on it that I use to cut roofs with. But the bigfoot with a swing is well worth the money. John
John,
That was you who bought the Dado saw?
I remember a thread at JLC from Pete Napollitano saying he had one.
Tell me where you bought it because I'll by one TOMORROW.

Yes that was me. Sorry. I've been looking for one since I used one years ago. When I saw this one I bought it. The price didn't matter. You might want to check out http://www.Timberwolf.com They have a skew notch that looks pretty awsome. A little pricey, but I know you would get your money's worth out of it over the next 25-30 years of roof cutting. I think it even bevels to 60 degrees. I was actually saving some money to get one when this one came along. I don't think the one I got will last 20 years, so I'll have to start saving my money again. John
We have the Bigfoot with the swingtable. I have beveled 2x Rafters with a 73° bevel and it worked really well.
You do have to buy the Bigfoot and the swingtable is an option. I love that saw. I would replace it in a hearbeat if it died or was killed :-)
I stand corrected and educated, thanks - -
I have the Bigfoot also. You can't go wrong with it. It's worth every penny if you cut alot of roofs especially Irregulars. Like I've said to others befor, the first time you use it, you will say to yourself that ,I can't believe I've been framing without it.
When you go on the Bigfoot website check out the Bolt Markers, I have three of them (hand held ones). Ther for scribing the foundation bolts onto the sills. It takes about 2 seconds to do it. Those are great also.

Thanks to all you guys for the information...Cag emailed me with a website and then says, "here you go but your fiance's gonna kill you!" He ain't kidding!! I actually figured out that as long as I keep stuffing a coupla hundred bucks a week into the "wedding account" I can pretty much get away with anything. I wouldn't want a package to show up and then not have the money for the wedding account that week.....whew....would probably end up not needing that account when she finishes with me!
Joe-
Speaking of the bolt marker, I've seen it several times in books, catalogs, etc. and it looks so quick to use. We still mark our bolts by measuring and squaring a line, and yawn....LOL. It takes forever it seems. I talked to my ever gracious boss about it and he didn't approve--I might be able to convince the journeyman of it though.
BTW, I got rained on nine times today and had lightning strike within 200 yards of us twice today--so much for rain days. I'm no puss, but geez, outside on a bare (no walls) slab in a lightning storm? I promise Joe I'm looking elsewhere; just as soon as we get the mortgage approval...it will be time.Quality before Quantity
Yo Cap, buy that Mortgage Insurance too.
Your Widow will appreciate it when 200 yards turns to 2 yards.
