I am in Rochester, NY and have just installed a Rheem Classic 90 Plus. The cost was just under $1400 and I feel that the extra money spent now for a higher quality/higher efficiency unit will result in cost savings in the NEAR future. With the cost of gas, efficiency will definitely work to your advantage.
thanks
that price is the heater price, or the installed heater price?
That price is the furnace alone. I think it was a 2 ton unit. My house is almost 1900 ft. but we are planning an addition. I traded some labor with my heat guy so the labor was free (other than the four hours I put in for him).
Wain - as a home inspector, I hear lots of differing views.
Some say the higher efficiency of the 90+ is offset by the higher maintenace and repair costs.
Some say the multi-stage are the cats meow - others shrug.
Personally, I would spend my time looking for a good, knowledgable, dependable heating contractor and go with whatever he is most comfortable with.
Tool Donations Sought
I'm matching tool donors to a church mission to Haiti - we're shipping a bus converted to a medical facility in January (we hope) and can fill it with clothes, tools and all sorts of stuff needed in that poorest of all countries. A few hand tools or power tools can provide a livelihood for an otherwise destitute family. Please email me if you have tools to donate.
Thanks to Jeff and David and Jim and Rich and Steven for their offers!
The list keeps growing
At the moment, we're looking at shipping the stuff in February, 2004
