So who is making the best extension cords these days. Working in Ottawa Ontario gets pretty cold in the winter. Im tired of those cords from Depot that turn into something that is as easy to coil as rebar when fall hits. The rubber ones ain’t bad but a little heavy. Im thinkin bout’ findin’ a manufactuer that can make me a big roll with the company colours on it. So I can see them in the plumbers truck. Whats everyone else usin.

Used to be that the blue ones were flexible, but then everyone started making theirs blue and that was no longer a clue.
this place might have what you want..

I have some yellow cord from "Yellowjacket" (like the bee). They seem to be pretty good even in the cold. and Home depot just started carrying
RIGID brand cords that also hold up pretty good in the cold.
No problems so far with either of the two brands in the cold.
and most of my cords are 12/3 wire as well.
I do have one 100ft 10/3 cord by YellowJacket and used in December with no problem winding back up after it had been out all day.
Good luck

I'm pretty sure that's what my yellow 12ga cords are. Got 'em at Lowes. Haven't had a problem with the cold, they stay flexible. Also have the lighted end, which is nice.
So I second or third the vote for Yellowjacket.

The cheap stand-alone cords use fewer, thicker wires. It's cheaper that way.
The Ridgid line of cords at HD are very flexible - and priced accordingly. If I can get some contributions, I will happily buy one.
I also have a plain yellow 100' cord from HD that will stand in a corner - in the SoCal Sunshine, so it should shine in the Frozen North.
@@@ Works for me.
I bought a 100' #12 yellow cord from Costco that was quite flexible. Enough so that I bought another and whacked it into a pair of 50s. These are for the Bosch Direct Connect - '50 or 100', you decide.

You might try a local real hardware store rather than the big box stores. The big retailers are often clueless about local needs. The local ones constantly tag plants as perennial when the fine print shows they are perennial only in two or three USDA zones further south. Many have take to listing temperatures instead of zones in an attempt to deceive buyers and hide the info from them.
I like the Yellow jackets. They stay pliable in cold weather. The only problem I had was one of the cords gave up its ground pin, but it was my fault for not plugging the ends together in the truck.
Carol Cable is a pretty good brand name for extension cords. You can look at their catalog at
http://www.generalcable.com/GeneralCable/en-US/Products/CordandCordsetProducts/Catalog/
Yellow jackets are great. They are made by woods and Lowe's carries a full line of different lenghts and gauges. I think the 12/3 50'ers are about $32 USD.
I've been very happy with the yellowjacket cords and have probably a dozen of them.
The first to get used up was damaged by being walked on, but lasted three years of everyday use. When the ground is wet that cord causes the GFCI to trip so there must be something bad that happened.
These are also the cords I'll buy to replace damaged power tool cords. Love 'em.
Beer was created so carpenters wouldn't rule the world.
Yellow jackets have a lifetime warranty, so they'll give you a replacement for that cord. Check their website and give them a call, the parent company is woods.
..I AIN"T BUYIN' ANOTHER FRIGGIN CORD!!
I have fifty billion miles of cords already with busted ends on them. I've already switched the good ends onto the cords that needed them leaving me with a bunch of cords with no ends.
What burns me up is...the ends cost almost more or as much as the cords which is why I have so many cords..lol.
I DO have several "real good" cords but I'd love to fix the busted ones.
I particularly love the removable cords from my Bosch saw with the lighted end.Big bucks for those though.
I just wanna fix some of the cords I have sitting in buckets with nice ends on them.
Anyone have a good source?
Thanks mucho
andy...

Andy, where you shoppin? The last cord end I replaced cost me about $3.00. Considering the price of most of our toys i'm a little surprised that you think cords with lit ends are big bucks.
Maybe Andy was buying these - I would consider them expensive.

I got 2 of those locking plugs. Best thing since sliced bread you ask me. Bought em cause they had a 200 lb compressors hanging from them in the brochure.
I usually just put my compressor on the ground

Not that nice...the ones I was looking at were minimally ten bucks each but still...the stupid cord was only $15 or less so...
I did find some $5 ends today that were decent enough for the cheap cords I was talking about.
My fav cord is the lighted one on my Bosch saw.
Need to keep checking Ebay for that type. I love how the cord it self is so flexable and love the lit end. Excellent cord!

Not sure if these are still available at Home Depot stores near you guys but they were a month or so back and they represent the very BEST deal on cords going. Here's a link to Amazon's page:http://www.amazon.com/ElectraTrac-50111-3-Gauge-4-Outlet-Extension/dp/B00006K014/sr=1-2/qid=1171346050/ref=sr_1_2/103-9704582-2859840?ie=UTF8&s=hiHome Depot was selling these like it was nothing special at $10.49 each. They are super heavy duty, flexible when cold and have 4 outets spaced out along the 25' length. These cords rock - One cord for the mitersaw, table saw, portable tool and vac - all 12 ga.JT

Amen to that. I happened to see one of these a few months ago at HD while I was in the elec. dept. picking up some boxes and, even tho' I have about a thousand cords already, I couldn't pass up the price. GREAT cord and nice to have the multiple plugs along the length. Lighted too. They haven't had them lately though, or I would have picked up another just because it's so cool. Hope it wasn't a one time deal.

I had bought some 14ga versions at Sams club years ago for $5, and that was a great deal, but having them in 12ga just makes me feel like I'm treating my tools better. Picked up 2 of them, because I don't really need much more than that. I tried to tell a few buddies about them - but they both replied something like "I already have the cords I need..."Talk about no clue - everyone could use a few of these no matter how many other cords you own.JT

These are great cords, I have a few bioth the 25 and 50', the lighted sockets are great. I cannot believe you got them at HD for that price! What a steal, I bought all mine on Amazon, for $40+. I am going to be scouring the HDs in my area.Best cord I ever used, and a great idea.
Yeah, didn't really think those were what you were looking at - just thought I would post the most expensive ends I had seen lately. I know what you mean about paying $10 for an end - I usually just buy a new cord as well. Rumour around here is that OSHA doesn't permit repaired cords - might have changed polarity.
Here is a source for 100 foot Bosch cords for $39.99 http://www.7corners.com/7c_store/showdetl.cfm?DID=1&offerings_ID=1155154540&ObjectGroup_ID=186437643&CATID=-1395552142
I have about 9 Yellow Jackets that I have been using for years with no problems, but, the one time I did use a Bosch it seemed to be of similar quality.
Yes they are, but when your on roof with a power tool and your cord doesn't come unplugged, they are priceless ( have couple of large cords with these 50 ft. # 12 and 50ft. # 14 )They don't catch like a tied cord and it stopped my Dewalt saw from crashing 30 ft. off a roof once. And they are fun to watch people try and disconnect for the first time too, LOL !!!!
I love to watch people try to unplug cords from those quikloks. Its what gets me through the day. I had a plumber borrow my cord on a job with out asking once, I told him it was broken and he'd have to cut the plug off his sawzall.
luv yr sig line/
I've seen the Bosch cords for sale someplace online... ToolKing perhaps. Given my choice I'd sooner buy either a Yellow Jacket or a Ridgid. I really like the Ridgid cords, although my local shop usually runs pretty good deals on the Yellow Jackets. I had a Frog Hyde cord a while back that held up pretty well and stayed flexible in any weather.
funny you should say that...glad you noticed before I cleared the slate two minutes ago..lol. Need to conjur up a new one. I get bored after a few days..lol.

I'm happy buying a new cord. The damage is obviously from something sharp that penetrated the jacket and apparently something down in the wires. It's close enough to the middle that I'll just keep the cord, cut out the bad section and use it for power tool replacement cords.
I do enjoy the lighted ends and it's a bummer when one of the little lightbulbs burn out.
Good building.
Beer was created so carpenters wouldn't rule the world.
One more vote for the Yellow Jackets.
Have been using them for years.
Stay flexible in the cold, rugged outer jacket, light in the female end, reasonable price - what's not to like

get mine at princess auto or home depot
when on sale at princess even with the light in the end they arent much more than the price of material
i just wind them in a loop and put a plastic clamp on them to hang them up in the trailer
if your helper winds a cheap one up with a hangmans knot you wont get the knot out till spring comes (been there seen it)
"Frogskin" brand, bought a 100 ftr at HD 5 years ago.
Outlives all the made in China "bumblebee" cords I've bought since.
12 ga , flexible year 'round.
I'd buy 5 more if I could find 'em.
Thats the mark of a good product,
it gets discontinued.

Yellow Jacket makes great 10 gauge cords, but I've found Polar Solars to be the best 12 gauge. Easy to wrap and incredibly tough jackets...and their 6' 4 ways are absolutely the greatest. I've had 3 of them for 6 years, every outlet and every light still works.

I'll second the Ridgid cords - they stay pretty flexible regardless of weather, and lay flat with no huge loops - this means less chance of tripping at the end of teh day when you're tired out.
Also, I don't think Bosch sells cords separately for use as extensions, but their blue cords sold with their tools are excellent as well.

I've been using cords made by a company called Tru-link. They've got a locking connector on the end of them which is pretty nice. But they are all weather. Roll up nice in very cold weather. I love 'em.
I picked them up at Home Cheapo a few years ago but haven't seen them since. Looked for them on the internet and seems they are made in Canada. You might find them somewhere still...
try 14, 12 or 10 ga. sj or sjoo or sjoow on rolls or by the foot from your electrical supply house
orange colored ends from hd are cheap & work well
make your own lengths in about 5 minutes....
Fine strand jacketed submersible pump wire makes excellent cords. Somtimes when I pull a pump the wire is still good enough to make cords out of it. Some of these cords are ten or more years old.
