I was out at the job site watering some trees today on my day off. I looked up and saw the builder’s son nailing some moulding up on a soffit board. After he hand nailed the moulding up he reached into his tool apron and pulled out a nail set and counter punched the nail.
He was 36 feet up in the air and nobody but him and the painter would ever see that nail head.
He did it because it was the right thing to do. I think it reflects a wonderful attitude. That builder should be awfully proud of that young man.

Many times I have heard people say that their method is good enough because:
It won't be inspected or the inspector won't look there.
No one else will see it.
I can't see it from my house.
I wonder at the energy used to duck the inspectors, cover the flaws or avoid responsibility compared with the energy it would take to just go ahead and do it right the first time and not have to look over their shoulder in doubt and fear. Far easier, in my mind, to do it the best you can and stand tall. If it doesn't work out there is little anyone can criticize.
Good kid. If you can offer him a job.
On the job site on your day off, doing that which needed to be done, says something about you too!
I've learned that you are judged by people watching what you do.............and when you do it.

That shows the individual has integrity to do what is required even though others will never see it or know. Its called craftmanship and quality. Unfortunately its becomeing a lost art. But Im thrilled that the builder is passing that on to his son. I wish everyone could pass on things like that to their children. It would be a better world. also shows that the guy up on the ladder knows a set nail has better holding power. Jeff She's exotic ,but not foreign, like an old Cadillac......she's a knockout!
