Hey everyone I’m posting these pics of a co-worker’s truck. He isn’t very computer savvy. He bought the truck a few years back spent 4 months of weekends outfitting it with all the custom built cabinets. It has 26 full extensions drawers, a closet up front and every tool you could ever need on the job. Its a 26′ Freightliner EX- W.B. Mason Truck

Wow! Beautiful woodwork.
I've often thought a step van would be a nearly perfect work vehicle
What kind of work do you guys do?

I'm thinking Grant could clad that curly maple with some copper. It would add some protection.
I worked for a guy with a couple of step vans, one a little bigger than the other(14' and 16' maybe). They were real nice to work out of. Lots of shelving, drawers, hooks, hangers, bins, etc . Always seemed to have what you needed, unlike a pickup where space is at more of a premium and things tend to get jumbled up and piled on top of each other. Also,I'm 6'2" so the extra headroom was a huge plus.
I'm currently working out of a full size GMC van, and I still can't carry even 1/2 my tools. I'm always trying to remember what I'll be needing for each job. <G>
Very nice, but I don't see any lips on the shelving to keeo things from flying off.

I like the front of it. It looks kind of French. Like a Citroen.

And he still had to toss his nail pullers on the floor!
The cabinetry looks good from here but the layout doesn't look that enticing to me. The overall plan and layout would give me pause. It seems a bit claustrophobic and over done but that might just be the picture angles. Its probably a lot roomier down that main aisle that what it looks in the pics.
I think I'd hate to tote that many tools to every job though. The fuel bill must be horrendous. I'd hate to make a 55 min one way trip every day toting all that stuff.
Nice cabinetry work but it's too over the top for my tastes. Plus, where would I put three squares of shingles?
I've lived in apartments that weren't that nice.

i bought one (a turbo diesel alum body step van).... maybe 6 mo ago haven't done anything with it... but that guy did a great job...
what i would do if i ever set it up to do any kind of work out of... or maybe set up to race karts for my 5yo... I'd mount an RV awning on one side.. so you could work out of the weather or rain if need be... and i'd find some way to to make some kind of lips that would pull out so i could carry sheet goods strapped to the side... just a few sheets... a gen set is a must... as is a roof mount RV ac unit......
just think'n
P:)
I've seen one with the awning and they also had it set up so part of the side under the awning was hinged so it would drop down to make a workbench.
We did an awning that was for an RV or VW Bus and had it on a trailer side..thinking we'd solder in the rain or otherwise be able to work. Made it hang so we could take it off when on road.
Not such a good idea, first thinderstorm and wind event wadded it up pretty bad and the attaching the prop pole feet to various ground conditions was a PITA.
Scrapped that idea.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

Lots of things missing. A fridge and microwave for lunch. And of course a beer tapper.

Somebody got crazy with this one .
Hey everyone, Thanks for the comments I'll send them on to Big "D" as for what kind of work we do its all high end custom residential and 1 big commercial Job that was a Furniture Store (Saybrook Country Barn) which had a restaurant in it called Aspen. Some framing and lots of trim :) Luckily our company is really stringent on getting materials ordered before we need them so he never has to carry materials with him. As to the space down the aisle there is quite a bit of room around 40 inches. I also have no idea what he gets for fuel mileage and our travel time is usually about 25 min max. I'll look into his mileage and let you know. I've posted some of pictures of the projects I've been part of while on the job.
Woodworker here, and i think it's gorgeous. Sometimes too much isn't enough.
I like the Cooley rail. Do you have any closeups of the handrail? It looks like the stretcher/support is coved? The baluster section wouldn't fly codewise here, but it sure is nice and clean.http://www.tvwsolar.com
