Hi !
I’m a new owner builder (with pro help) and we are about to back fill the frost footings. My question at this point is I am getting stubborn about wanting to do this right. The south wall is all high performance glass and I will have ceramic tile as the finished floor surface. Does it make sense to use more stone fill on that side of the house ? Under a slab does it really act as a heat sink ?? I did the proverbial garage house last fall and lived through a tough Minnesota winter and the windows really soaked up the heat nicely. I went from about 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. without the boiler kicking in (hot water floor heat in a 2″ slab over subfloor). The next section will have the same heat source but on a slab (no basement).
Could I beg for your own “sandwich” layer advice ? This is gravel heaven so there’s plenty to be had.
Thanks…this is a wonderful board to have discovered…been adicted to the magazine for years !!
