abs or pvc for house drains and vents
ABS vs PVC – pros and cons
I see no cons to abs and it is cheaper. Am I missing anything? More brittle at teh roof line, perhaps?

The most common way to make your own parging mix is to use either Type S mortar for block or Type N for brick and add a concrete bonding additive.

I've seen pvc dwv used, but never here in So Cal. I'd stick with abs. Some inspectors requre vents to be painted above the roof line.

I used to build along the PA-NJ border. In PA, they used ABS. In NJ, they used PVC. Toilets drained just fine in both states. I think the main factor is what's available. Personally, I've mostly used PVC, but suspect that's 'cause I'm a Jersey guy. I think ABS may not be quite as rigid as PVC. And there's the issue of pollution from PVC manufacture, although I don't know that ABS is any better.
Down here in Florida PVC is all that's used. I don't think it matters except that if one or the other is required by code it may be all that's available.
And keep in mind that you can't mix them without special fittings or specialized glue.
