In the bathroom I’ve been working on, the plan has varied tremendously a few times over the last week or two. The latest plan is a pedestal sink, as well as a pedestal tub. Existing drain for sink is ABS, but the HO doesn’t like the look much, should any show through. I’m not to the point of plumbing anything yet, but I wonder if there is some miracle solvent that can bond ABS to PVC, or if the HO can just paint the ABS if they don’t like it. I’m thinking the rubber coupling won’t fly. Any tips on that, or anything else remotely related?

Is the ABS drain going to be centered with the sink?
First if you want it to look good you never have any exposed plastic pipe.
It is easier to do if the drain is centered with the sink.
Cut the ABS pipe so that the fitting with nut is just outside the wall so you can tighten it around the metal drain pipe. Get a extra large metal pipe cover (escutcheon), this will go over the metal drain pipe and cover the ABS plastic fitting on the wall. Then use metal trap, pipe for the rest of the drain, usually matched to the faucet, chrome, brass, nickle finish, etc.
There is a glue for ABS and PVC, we use it to join the ABS pipe that comes out of the house and joins with the PVS pipe that goes to sewer or septic.
Unfortunately, I believe the sink will be offset a couple inches from the drain. I don't think that came out right, but I hope you understand me anyway. So you glue on a ABS male threaded fitting? Or is there a piece of the metal I'm not seeing? Thanks, much appreciated.
That was easy to understand, the center of the sink is 2" off of one side of the drain pipe. And yes you use a threaded male fitting with a nylon compression nut that tightens around the metal pipe.
Another question, where are your supply taps in relation to the drain pipe. If they are way lower, etc. they should also be moved so that they are up high either alongside both sides of the drain pipe or slightly above, the closer and higher the better so they can be hidden. Also do you have any backing in the wall to attach the sink to? The pedestal base does not support the whole weight of the sink, and you need a way to keep it from moving.
If you want it it to look good you need to do all these things I have mentioned.
I found a STEP BY STEP on installing a pedestal sink for you on the net. Lots of pictures so you will understand the what and why of my posts.

Found a couple of pics for you.
This is a pedestal sink trap kit with extra deep escutcheon to cover plastic fitting.

You can get these kits to match the faucet.
Kq gave you some great advise.
PVC glue will actually glue ABS, but ABS glue will not glue PVC.
& no inspector that I know will allow a glued transition.
If you have to bring out the plastic stub you can put a ABS female adapter in the wall & transition with a PVC male adapter, or a rubber hubless couple that is listed for plastic to plastic.

Right on! As an inspector I will never approve a glued transistion from ABS to PVC. Only mechanical connections will be approved for joining different materials (i.e., No-Hub bands, Fernco's or threaded fittings).
Here's what drives me nuts.
When I get to the end of the job there is always some little part I am short & I will go to home desperate to get the part.
As I walk down the plumbing aisle they have white PVC & "BLACK" PVC listed on their signs.
So I asked the "master" plumber who works that department, so is that Poly-Vinyl-Chloride , or is it Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene.
Oh the look of total confusion from the "master" plumber just makes my day."For instance, Hillary Clinton said in a recent visit that ethanol is 'a perfect example' of how we can wean ourselves from foreign oil. Somewhere, I have seen sleeves for ABS pipe. Perhaps there is also something available to cover fittings, I don't know.
