I’m a contractor. Occasionally I’ll have customers ask me if I take credit cards, which I don’t, but I was wondering is this something that can be done through a third party source, such as PayPal? It would be pretty cool if so.
Or is there another way to accept credit cards without having to deal with a monthly fee and having to rent one of those “card swiping” machines? I looked into it once and it was way to expensive for the amount of transactions I would’ve had.
Thanks

Hi Mike , yes paypal, it's about $30.00 per month and a small transaction fee. Good Luck [email protected]
easy enough to set up a paypal account. they take about 3% for there trouble.
the one thing that might bother me is when buying on ebay and there is a problem, they debit your account ask questions later.don't know if that would apply to outside transactions or not.

I just touched base with an old friend that moved back home.
He sells credit card services.
I have to find out more details ... but over a coupla beers after the cook out I picked up he sells the machine instead of renting. Think it cost around $250. Buying it outright vs renting means one less hand in the till ... so his clients get billed a percent less than typical.
alot of his business is switching over people that already have the rented machines, says his numbers always work out better.
If U wanted more info ... email me and I'll pass your name along to him.
After I get a little more info ... I was planning on starting a thread to see how many people would be interrested. Talking to him ... since he's his own salesman ... I could probebly work a "group rate" for the initial buy in.
I've never taken cards ... have always thought about it. I do think it would help close the deal on some jobs ... especially quick repair jobs and smaller stuff.

You can send them professional invoices from your paypal account, and they can pay with a major credit card. I don't think there is any fee other than their standard cut of about 3% of the total you recieve.

We do it through Quickbooks and it's about $30.00 per month.....and a small percentage. I carry a manual card swipe in my truck; they're cheap. One thing I like about Quickbooks is I can send an email to a customer, which has a link, where they can pay a deposit. IMHO mentioning PayPal, instead of accepting major credit cards, gives a different image of your business.

I use QB as well for my transactions, but I don't have a card swiper. I take the card info over the phone. I'll search HELP, but how does the email link work?http://www.quittintime.com/ View Image
My wife's a CPA and does all my paperwork....lucky me. I'll ask her when she gets home.I give her the email address and the deposit amount and she sends the customer an invoice with the amount for the deposit. The customer clicks the link which takes them to a website where they enter their CC info. I do a lot of window and door repairs, so this helps speed things up. .View Image
