Access To Cleanouts Through Drywall?
I’m working on a finished basement that will have many feet of drain pipe enclosed in soffits covered with drywall. There are several cleanouts (Mostly 4″ PVC dandy cleanouts: See FHB #160, p 67.). Is there a neat, simple and inexpensive way to do this? I’ve seen the steel doors designed for similar applications, but even a small 8×8 one is about $15. I’m thinking of maybe something like a big, plastic soffit vent without the slats that would press-fit into a hole and could be simply pryed out when and if needed. I could make something with plywood and molding, but I’d like something more streamlined and less visible. Thanks!

Our local hard ware store caries exactly what you mentioned. Its white plastic rectangle about 8X12" has spring steel clips on the back that hold fast to the sheetrock. check out plumbing supplies i believe they were manufactured by OATEY.
If you need Ill get one of the packages off the ones I just put in and give more info.
splinter and mojo,, keep those access panels coming,, I love em. Unfortunatley, I seem to be the installing them after the fact. I'am strong believer that their should be a whole more of just what splinter described, installed in the workplace/homes. Thats just me though
