What’re you guys using for accounting software? I’d be grateful to hear pros and cons from users before I invest the time and money in a package. In my old business we had a very elaborate system that was written for us, in hindsite a big waste as well as a significant PIA, but I’m just not up on the off the shelf programs…
Thanks in advance!

Quick Books Pro. We use it because our accountant does and so each month we burn a disk and send it to him. But the wife likes it so I do too! DanT
Quick Books Pro- 5 years later and I'm starting to realize what a great program it is. And what the previous post said.
You're almost as paranoid as the people that're trying to kill me.
Hmmm...Well, of the three people (including youse two) that I've spoken to, all three use Quicken products. Thanks guys...
quickbooks basic. the only other one is put out by Peachtree; I don't recall the name exactly.
Hmmnn after a couple of years on QB for wWindows we made the switch to QB for Mac when Intuit got back into Mac software.
After a few years of trying to work with that this year we switched to MYOB Account Edge and couldn't be happier.
The one advantage I think that QB may have is that soooo many people use it if you have a question regarding how to use it you can probably ask the person next to you in line at the deli about it and they will have some experience with the program.
However we grew incredbly frustrated with getting data into and out of QB to work with our other applications. On that count MYOB Account Edge is far easier and in my estimation superior. I would not go with Quickbooks without getting a MYOB demo and giving it serious consideration.
By the way MYOBs products are MYOB Account Edge on the Mac and for Windows it's called MYOB BusinessEssentials and MYOB BusinessEssentials Pro. They also give you a copy of the program you can give to you accontant if they don't already have a license. And I just noticed (this is new) they give you a copy of Ellen Rohrs great book Where Did The Money Go?- Easy Accounting Basics for the Business Owner Who Hates Numbers with the BusinessEssentials Pro edition. That's the campainion to her book How Much Should I Charge?: Pricing Basics for Making Money Doing What You Love.
If You do decide to go with QB you should still buy her books.

Thanks Jerrald,
I'll have a look at their stie before I make a purchase...
Jerrald, MYOB looks good. I hateQB....but I hate a lot about computers in general..
QB requires a monthly/yearly subscription to keep the tax records updated. I just feel like that is extortion, but it may very well be justified.
Does MYOB have the same sort of tax update requirements? If so, how much? I couldn't find that info on their site.
blueJust because you can, doesn't mean you should!
Warning! Be cautious when taking any framing advice from me. There are some in here who think I'm a hackmeister...they might be right! Of course, they might be wrong too!
