I’ve pulled up the old tile and removed its adhesive, and am ready to move ahead with acid staining my old concrete floor. However, no contractors have returned my calls and I’m ready to finish it myself! My floor, being older is dark, and I’m wondering how to clean or lighten it before staining. In the May issue of this year the article suggests washing the floor next with TSP. Is this safe for older floors as well (it’s not clear to me from the article.) I have “grout lines,” darker lines in the concrete, if the TSP doesn’t get it up, is it safe to use more d-limonene, which I used to get the adhesive off. Are there any other prep suggestions or cautions I should be made aware of before I proceed?

It doesn't sound as if this floor is a candidate for acid staining.
You might try to call the lady that was featured in the article. I believe she is in Dallas.

Where did you get your D-limonene?
