Add another light to light-switch
I’d like to add another light to a light switch that already turns on the flood light in the front of the house. I want to add a second flood light to the side of the house on that same switch.
THAN i’d like to add a timer switch there. But first:
how can i test to see if the power goes into the existing switch first, or the existing light first? That would depend on how i set up the second light, correct?

Sorry to have to tell you this, but if you knew what you were doing you wouldn't have to ask the question.

I think he's telling you that if you have to ask, you maybe shouldn't do it yourself.
I guess I'd elaborate a bit and say that you should be able to open the switch box and figure out what's going on. Get yourself a book on basic home wiring if you have to. If you still can't figure it out, then best leave it to the pros.

OK, so now when you open the box that holds the switch, you should be able to tell what situation you have.
yes. but getting to the light will be the tough part !

The old light or the new one, an experienced sparky will look at it differently than you & find it no big deal, bite the bullet & hire someone

You might also want to keep in mind that most 'newer' 'security' lights have the ability to be connected in tandem or series. That is to say if you can run from the original light to the new light whenever one light's photo sensor activates the light the other light will come on as well.
Let's not confuse the issue with facts!
