Adding a boost fan to microwave vent
I’m looking for advice or recommendation for adding a boost fan to the vent duct for my microwave/vent hood. I have access to the duct in the attic and plenty of electrical/wiring background so the physical installation is not an issue. I am looking for feedback on whether or not the vent can be made more effective by adding a fan in the duct.
The current arrangement does not work well at all and my options are really limited as far as replacing the microwave with a vent only. I would like to keep the microwave where it is, just have the vent actually useful.

YES it could Try American Aldes "A" series duct booster fans
Thanks, I will take a look at them.
Silly Q Tom
Was the motor rotated properly for exhaust?
Most Microwaves are set for recirc and you have to flip and flop the fan unit for it to exhaust
I am sure you can search the manufacturer and get the instructions if you dont have them to verify but unless it is a pretty good run, I have never had an issue.
Anyway, if not listen to others advise.
It is set for exhaust but it is a valid question. I think there is really just too much duct for that small fan to be effective. Probably going through 20 ft of duct by the time it goes through the second floor, attic and out the roof. It has never worked well.

When you said access to attic in your op I sort of figured that was the case but I've seen em backwards too!
good luck
Booster fan like was mentioned. Watch the sizing on the booster fan, on a microwave you might be limited by the inlet screen area to teh amount of air you can move and buying a fan that is too big might not be worth it.
