Adding a zone to a hot water heating system
Hey all. Have a 3 story home with only 2 heating zones. There’s one that includes – get this – one top floor bedroom (radiator) and bathroom (radiator), the entire main floor radiators)., and the basement (baseboards – 2) – with the thermostat on the main! The 2nd is just for 2 bedrooms on the top floor (radiators) with the thermostat on the same floor.
Anyway, been using an ecobee sensor thermostat to heat the basement – but it doesn’t work that well. Not bad, but not good. Debating whether to (option 1) add a 3rd zone for the basement to the existing system or (option 2) if it’s not too cost-prohibitive – add the zone and seperate the three zones – one for each floor – adding a thermostat to the new basement zone.
Question is what should I expect to pay for option 1, and/or option 2? Any advice? Also, would it be better to use radiators in the basement, or just use the baseboards? That said, option 3 – how about just replacing the basement baseboards with radiators and leaving the rest alone? Would that work?
Ugh!. Thanks so much for your time and advice.
