adding doors and windows into vinyl siding
Hello there!
I have to add a door and window into a wall and am curious how I do this without hurting the remaining siding.
Can I mark the opening needed for the siding, go an inch or so wider, cut it open then after installing the window or door, use some J channel to wrap the door and hide the cut edges? The only other thing I can image is to remove the siding all the way above the opening then replacing it. On the span of wall I’m working on, that would be quite a big project.
How do the people in the know handle this?
Thanks for your time!

Having gotten to think about it as I look at the walls of the structure, I'm thinking I can design a trim surround that allows me to overcut the vinyl opening the width of the trim surround, install j channel to terminate the vinyl siding, insert window, fasten tab strip to wall and install the trim to fill the space between the window and the vinyl siding.
Does that sound like a feasible solution or am I neglecting to take something important into account?
That's how I would do it.
