The spec writer for our arch office has the following in the installation section for clay roof tiles:
“The cover portions of field tile shall be additionally fastened using a bead approximately 3/8″ by 4-6″ of adhesive under the butt end of the roof tiles where the tiles lap over at the crown.”
The roof sub on the job is protesting, and states this is only done in typhoon/hurricaine prone areas. The project is a one story commercial bldg in the SF Bay Area.
Any thoughts or opinions? Thanks!

I live about 10 hours from the nearest coast and have had to replaced wind blown-off ridge tiles several times. In most cases copper nails were not used and the fasteners had rusted away. I have several tubes of clay tile adhesive made by Geosel that the rep gave me. I have no experience with it, but have been very pleased with other Geosel products. This stuff comes in various colors and appears easy to apply. Shouldn't take much extra labor to apply, shouldn't cost a whole lot to met the specs. Could cost a lot to repair later. Belt and suspenders. Good Luck.
I haven't figured out how to add a link yet. Their address is geocelusa.com
One more thing, don't they some times have earthquakes around SF.
