I am a cabinetmaker with questions on replacing my daughter’s bathroom vanity cabinet. The current cabinet is on a concrete slab. There is a 2 inch space behind the cabinet and the wall that separates the bathroom from the living room. There is a rough space behind the base of the cabinet and only dirt, no concrete, in some of the area. An engineer friend told me this is for pipes to run. Since I have no idea of how the cabinetry should be handled here, I am requesting some help. I have heard that wood should not be in contact with the ground in general. Do I just hold the toekick base back to where the slab begins? Put a plastic sheet over the dirt? What about attaching the cabinet to the wall in this case? The current cabinet has a 2 inch space that goes all the way up to the counter top, and I can see no clues about how it is held in place.
Thanks for any help,
Gretchen

Gretchen,
Can you post a photo of the condition?
I didn't think to take a photo while I was there, and now things being the way they are in and around Seattle, it may be awhile before I am able to get back and take them.
