Hello,
I recently added an upstairs bedroom and I’m planning to add another bedroom and a full bath but I was hoping you could offer advice on the following topics;
1) The new bedroom is approx 336′ and is tied into the existing 3-ton CH/A system which already services approx 1850′ on the lower level. This system is 13 yrs old and requires service each summer so I was planning to replace it with a larger unit with the addition of the new rooms which will add another 450′ or so. I was thinking of a single large unit partly because the stairwell leaves a continuous opening between the upper and lower levels anyway. However, a portion of the cielings of each of the upper rooms is on the direct underside of the 2×6 rafters with the deck and shingles on the other side. My question is, would it be better cost and efficiency-wise to have a large unit handling the entire house or smaller zoned units for each level?
2) The new bathroom will be directly over a bath on the lower level and I was planning to use the same layout so the plumbing would line up. However, the lower level is on a slab and I don’t think I can tie the waste lines in so I was planning to run them between the 2×6 ceiling joists to the outside of the house and then down through a built box of some kind and into the septic system. This would mean a run of approximately 20′ level across the cieling before the drop on the outside. Will this work and is there a better way to do this? Also, will there be any problems with water pressure in the upper level bathroom?
Thanks
