In an earlier disscussion on AFCIs I mentioned my brother in law had one on an appliance cicuit. I had pointed out to him that this was the wrong application, etc. Since he hasn’t gotten a CO on the house yet, I also told him to get his electrician back to check it out.
Now here is the good part. The electrician told him to break the ground prong off of the refrigerator plug! It seems like this guy has already figured out a way to defeat the safety factor AFCIs are suppose to add to the electrc system of a new home.
I am headed over there tomorrow to check out the problem, and I’ll ohm the circuit in question, just to be sure it is not a circuit wire problem.

While you are at it, why not try to ohm the electrican. I wonder what the resistance of 10 lbs of the solid fat between the ears is.
Thems no electrician that would say such a thing. Dumb.
Moron misuses a AFCI and now wants to 'correct' the problem by removing the ground prong. If there are inspectors in your area I would think about getting them involved. This guy needs to move on to underwater basket weaving or something else where he can do less harm. I'm sure he is a creative and talented individual. Unfortunately his talents do not extend into the realm of the electrical trade.
I would have anything he touched gone over in detail to be safe. From what you have posted i wouldn't let him put batteries in my flashlight much less actually wire anything. This guy needs to move to another field before he gets someone seriously hurt.
