air change in a basement workshop
Would an ERV/HRV work in a basement that has a somewhat moldy smell and also includes a small woodworking shop?
Looking for ways to change the air in this basement. The basement is a typical type below a ranch house that has standard basement windows.
House is in New England. Cold winters and humid summers! Thanks

nkhandyman,
Watch the "Insulating Your Basement" videos by FHB's former editor, Justin Fink. The series can be found in the FHB Video section or on YouTube. The moldy smell is a result of moisture condensing on the cooler surfaces in the basement, so you need to dry it out and insulate.
Alternatively, use a dehumidifier in the basement for the warmer, more humid months, and use Concrobium, or another mold killer that leaves a mold-resistant residue, to clean the basement surfaces that have mold or smell musty.
