So the roofer sold them some skylights, but said you will have to get someone else to finish the inside. O’boy once again I get to be Someone Else. At least he pushed nails through the celing to indicate the corners. The house has a vaulted ceiling with a 5 in 12 pitch. There is about a 4 inches of fiberglass batt on the drywall. I put some temporary blocks between the rafters after cutting out the drywall on the ceiling while the owners figured out how they wanted the skylights finished out. Today I removed the blocks and boy is it nice and damp in there now. If I drill some holes in the rafters above and below the skylights will this provide enough airflow between the soffit and ridge vents? By the way this house is located in the Washington D.C. area. Thanks to all who respond. B

First question is why is it damp? January in DC is not a high humidity month but with all the rain and snow did the roofer seal them?
Second if you only have 3 1/2" of f/g insulation in a roof it ain't doing much.
Third drilling holes through rafters weakens them. Air flow is second to structural integrity.
With all that said heck yea drill away and FYI it's much easier to use an electric drill while standing in a bucket of water using an ungrounded cord.
I'm betting you are unlicensed with no insurance and work real cheap. Prove me wrong.

G. You know your a mess , you try to "prove me wrong" Sounds like you need to find some type of employment thats a little less stressful because it is obivious you can't handle what your doing. Perhaps theres something available in the "Gods gift to builders dept." . What'sthe matter is he getting work that you can't because in order to make "lunch money " you have to start by pouring a new footing to fix the problem. I challenge you to come up with a solution to the problem he has , for just this once in your life stand up and be a leader.
