All Porter Cable cordless discontinued

jdarylh1 | Posted in Tools for Home Building on June 3, 2008 02:56am

Sorry if this post is redundant or dated information, I did some searches first before posting but couldn’t find anything similar.

Was at the DeWalt/Porter Cable repair facility today to pick up a part and the service tech told me that DeWalt is eliminating all Porter Cable cordless tools. All PC cordless tools being sold now are from inventory and they won’t be making any more. Porter Cable will still function as a brand but will focus on the “woodworking line”. He’ll still repair PC cordless for a while.

I did some useless complaining and he just shrugged and said it was a high level corporate decision. The “New Products” section on their website seems to match what he was saying. Who knows what they’re thinking. Maybe they think DeWalt has higher visibility and it’s a cost cutting thing to eliminate similar product lines.

Time to switch to Rigid, Bosch or whatever one’s preference is.

I didn't know anyone ever bought them...........

Black& Decker, DeWalt, PC, & Delta- of course they are consolidating the product lines, wouldn't you?

This is timely - I was just looking at my old 19.2V PC drill in the shop yesterday & was wondering if they still made any cordless stuff.  Never really liked that drill anyway.  IIRC, the batteries are shot & never bought any replacements.

Wasn't aware that DW owned P-C tho, guess that buyout slipped past me.

The saw and drill are still fine. So I'm going to rebuild them per directions I was given on another post.

I was thinking there must some source for the basic cells that go into all of these batteries. I would imagine they are like computers...pretty much all have the same guts.I've got an iPod speaker system that has a dead Lithium Ion battery in it that they don't sell a replacement for and went looking for any generic cell of the same rating. No luck as of yet...Steve

Wow, only $90, sounds like a bargain. . . Not!

You got a link to the site that tells how to rebuild the batteries?  I would maybe consider it if it were easy & cheap enough.

That PC drill was my second, the first went up in smoke a week after I got it.   Seems like I had a cheap moment and went with the PC instead of my usual Makita to save a few bucks.  I know I regreted it from about the day I bought it.

          >You got a link to the site that tells how to rebuild the batteries? I would maybe consider it if it were easy & cheap enough.<The link I posted above will take you to a thread that covers most of the information. I haven't done it yet, but it seems like it won't be too hard if one takes it slowly at first and pays attention.Just learned about this site: They'll rebuild a 19.2 for $38 + shipping.
          http://www.wcbatteryrebuilders.com/Here's another one:
          http://www.primecell.com/
Their charge is $51 + shipping. They upgrade the capacity though and have been doing it for a good whileBatteries Plus also rebuilds.
