Any suggestions on getting a finer line. I heard once that a braided fly fishing line is a good option. Thought I would ask around and see. Anyone?

Yes, heavy braided fishing line works well.

I tried the 75 lb. leader in my chalkbox. It worked well for about half a floor, then it tangled up repeatedly. There is a new braided chalkline available from most lumberyards and the Fat Max chalkboxes have a doublebraided cotton line, I believe, that last long and lay a pretty, thin line. bob
Eight or ten years ago, my electrician was using some Kevlar string to shoot through underground conduit. He then used it to pull the rope through and then the cables with the rope.
That Kevlar string is finer than a regular nylon or cotton line and nearly indestructable. He would use it once and leave it tangled up on the floor or the ground. I took it home and untangled it while watching Desert Storm. I've been using it since then for straight lines, chaulk lines, and even an occasional shoelace. It doesn't hold as much chaulk until you get it frayed and broken in for a year or so but you don't have to replace it often and it does make an accurate line.
