Alternative to Baseboard – commercial???
We are thinking of renovating the medical clinic where I work. Lots of foot traffic, once-over with the mop every night. The baseboards look disgusting – right now they’re the 4″ wide vinyl ones that come in the long rolls. Is there a decent (and cheap) alternative to the vinyl baseboard? We’re going with a mix of tile and carpeting, depending on the use the room will get, and didn’t want to go with carpeting up the wall? Wooden ones get banged up in this situation, but what’s the alternative. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

What's wrong with the vinyl base? It's appropriate over carpet, becasue it takes the dings from the vacuums. Maybe you need a different color to hid dirt & age. If you can, go with the long rolls rather than the 4' pieces; less joints. Over ceramic or vct, vinyl base works well because it doesn't get abused by the damp mops. You could run the same ceramic or vct up the wall.
